The History and Future of Troop 1998

Troop 1998 was chartered in 1973 by the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks in Frederick MD. We have, since our inception, had the honor of bringing to our community and our nation over 100 Eagle Scouts.

Troop 1998 is a great place to be if you like the outdoors. We schedule about fifteen camping events throughout the year including three long-term summer camps. We aim to have a camping opportunity every month of the year. Our goal is to provide the opportunity for young men to learn to work in a group toward a common end. We use the outdoors and camping to teach planning, teamwork, leadership and to empower these young men to advocate for themselves in a safe yet challenging environment.  Our job as adults is to encourage the scouts to take on challenging activities, see them through to a successful completion, and at the end of the day be able to say "We did it ourselves!".

Troop 1998 meets every Monday year round. During the school year, we follow the FCPS schedule. If there is no school for the students, we will not have a meeting. Likewise, during the summer we will not meet if Monday falls on a holiday.

Our Monday meetings are 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM at the Elks Lodge located at 289 Willowdale Drive, Frederick MD 21702

If you are interested in bridging into our troop, transferring from another troop, or just want to come see what scouting is all about, come join us when it works for you. Please contact us and we will be ready to host you.

Yours in Scouting,

David Young - Scoutmaster - Troop 1998B
